Funeral service for Hugh Marshall Arney, Sr. age 79, of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted at 11 AM Friday, December 27, 2019 at Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Boonshill Cemetery.
Marshall was born February 26, 1940 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Tom Crawford and Katie Ruth West Arney. Mr. Arney was a 1958 graduate of Boonshill High School. After high school he attended Draughon’s Business College and served in the TN National Guard. Marshall retired from A Wiley & Associates and worked as a project manager with AMTEC Corporation both in Huntsville, AL.
Marshall loved the Lord, life, his family, and serving his community. He was a member of the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, a Sunday School teacher, and on the safety committee. Mr. Arney also severed on the Fayetteville Public Utilities Board of Directors, Lincoln County Board of Public Utilities, and was a Boy Scout Leader.
Marshall was very active in the Fayetteville Lions Club. He joined Lions Club International in May of 1969. Over the years Marshall has earned many awards including the Melvin Jones Fellow, Fayetteville Lion of the Year and Lion of the Decade, District 12-S Lion of the Year, and 50 years of devoted service to Lions in 2019. Marshall served on several committees and chaired the Historical/Museum and Basketball Tip-Off Games Committees. He has held several officer positions including King Lion and most famously known as the Tail Twister.
Marshall enjoyed fishing, gardening, grilling, driving tractor at Lyon’s Family Farm, and eating breakfast at Honey’s Restaurant. He never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Myra Smith Arney; daughter, Melanie (Johnny) Pitcock; son, Hugh Arney; grandchildren, Harrison Arney, Olivia Arney and Jack Pitcock; sister, Arlene Sanders; and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catherine Rae Pitcock.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1015 Lewisburg Hwy, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or the Fayetteville Lions Club, P.O. Box 217, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

This time of year most of us have watched the movie where the angel shows George Bailey what the world would have been without him. I can’t help but think what would Lincoln co and Huntsville have been without Marshall. I know the Lions club certainly would have been different. I know my growing up would not have been the same. He taught me many things. I am very proud to say he was my first cousin. I will miss him. I look forward to seeing him again in heaven. Not sure when I see him if he will be fishing or driving a bulldozer.

Marshall has been a cornerstone of the Fayetteville Lions club during the 17 years that I have been a member. He leaves a big void that will not be filled. He will be an asset in his heavenly home.

Marshall Arney went about this world doing good. He truly lived his faith. Myra, Melanie, and Hugh, my heart is aching along with yours. Much love to all of you.

M.A. was friend and helped friends without measure. He was kind and always a gentleman, quick to a laugh out of life….he lived life well and he will be missed sorely

I have known Marshall for the better part of 41-years and I have not met a better person. He was always willing to listen, offer advice, and direction when appropriate. I worked with him at Wyle Labs for several years before he left to continue his stellar career at AMTEC. He was involved in so many of the technological advances we enjoy today and served the Warfighter in ways most of us will never know. He will truly be missed by all. Rest well my friend.

Saddened by just discovering this obituary. I was a young Pratt & Whitney engineer when Marshall was project entirely for the space shuttle fuel centrifuge test. Totally agreed with comments in the obituary. I admired him immensely. Some 20 years later we dined together with wives on one of trips in the south. Blessed to have known this man.
