Hugh Edward “Peanut” Towry

Funeral services for Hugh Edward “Peanut” Towry, age 82 , of Fayetteville, will be conducted Thursday at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Dr. Calvin Todd and Rev. Ed Templeton officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Towry passed away Tuesday morning at his residence.

Mr. Towry was the youngest son of Shields and Pauline Towry of the Kirkland Community. He was preceded in death by a brother Burton Towry and two sisters Geraldine Templeton and Rebecca Ann Strope.. In 1952 he married Corona Franklin of Kelso, TN. They had three children Carol Towry (Rex) Walker, Connie Towry (Terry) Quick and a son Ed (Keitha)Towry and nine grandchildren Melissa W. Chavez, Laura Walker, Matthew Walker, Billy Nix Scivally III (Scooter), Rebecca Morgan Towry, Ray E. Towry Jr., Alicia Richardson, Kasi Letson,, and one great-grandchild Conner Holloway and deceased grandchild Chad Edward Scivally. Hugh and wife Corona are members of the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of the old Lincoln County High School in 1950 where he played alto sax for four years. He worked with his dad in the cotton gin business and in the farm operation there. After his dad died, Peanut sold his share of the gin business to his brother. He then bought a farm in the Coldwater community and in a few years was operating nearly a 1000 acres with lots of livestock and grain. In1986 he sold most of the farm land. and became a sub-divider of residential property then after that became a real estate agent. He was licensed for 16 years and a co-owner in Century 21. During some of this time he became a Bank Director for the Old Lincoln County Bank. Then in 2006 elected Lincoln County Commissioner for a term of four years.

Visitation with his family will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Connie, I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I know how it feels to loose your Dad and the hurt is so deep. I remember spending the night with you and he was so nice. Rebecca and I are so sorry to learn of Hugh’s passing. We enjoyed seeing him, during his real estate days, at our meetings. He was a kind man.
