Helen Henry Patrick Matthews

Funeral service for Mrs. Helen Henry Patrick Matthews, age 93, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carol Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Matthews passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 in Huntsville Hospital.

Mrs. Matthews was a native of White Oak, SC, the daughter of the late Matthew White Patrick and Ilda Nixon Patrick. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for 60 years, an Erskine College graduate, a member of the DAR and Foreman of the Lincoln County Grand Jury for 16 years.

Survivors include her daughter Pat Matthews Fraley of Fayetteville, TN, grandson Will Fraley and wife Britton of Murfreesboro, TN, great granddaughters Maddie Fraley of Lynchburg, TN, Emma Fraley of Fayetteville, TN, Ella Sim Fraley, Savannah Fraley both of Murfreesboro, TN, son Van Matthews of Franklin, TN, granddaughter Elizabeth Matthews and great grandson Kross Shutt both of Fayetteville, TN. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John V. Matthews, II in March, 1993.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville First Presbyterian Church.

Pat, I first met your mom as a member of the county grand jury. I admired her Southern charm, her intelligence, her wit, and her class. She was surely an iconic member of the “Greatest Generation” and will be dearly missed. My heart goes out to your family and your church.

Pat, I thought of your Mother every time I passed her house on my way into town. She was a beautiful lady, and you will miss her terribly. May God comfort you during this sad time.

So sorry to hear of Mrs. Matthews passing. I served on the Grand Jury with her and thought she was a sweet lady. Prayers for Pat, Van and their families. She will be missed.
