Harry Willard Smith

SMITH, Harry Willard “Billy”, 92, of Brooksville passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Oak Hill Hospital. He was born in Akron, Ohio and came to Brooksville 12 years ago from Palm Harbor, Florida. He was Christian by faith. He served in the U.S. Army from 1938-1943 as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was a member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge #68 for over 50 years in Tennessee and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Harry started his career in Personnel Management with the Civil Corp of Engineers outside of Memphis, TN, in 1952 he went to work at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL for NASA to work on the space program and later moving to Cocoa, FL in 1962 working at Kennedy Space Center where he retired in 1970 as Chief of Recruitment and Placement.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca and Coleman Smith of Brooksville, FL; his sister: Alice M. Smith of Fayetteville, TN; 2 brothers: Richard E. Smith of Fayetteville, TN; Gene T. Smith and his wife, Ann, of Harvest, AL; 1 Granddaughter: Connie S. Wooley and her husband, Dean of Melbourne, FL; 1 Grandson: Cary H. Smith and his wife, Michelin of Rockledge, FL; 2 Great Grandchildren: Jennifer and Alison Wooley, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Service will be held at 11 AM Monday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Van Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service at Higgins Funeral Home.
