Gracie Lee Carson Whitfield

Graveside service for Gracie Lee Carson Whitfield, age 89 of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 1 PM on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Stewart Cemetery with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

Gracie was born on May 19, 1931 in Franklin County, TN to the late Elonzo Clifford and Artie Mary Adams Carson. She was a homemaker, good cook, and an avid reader. Gracie and her late husband Chester C. Whitfield loved traveling. She had a successful Avon sales career for many years, while she assisted her husband in the service station business (where they earned and took a wonderful trip to Hawaii with Parson’s Oil distributorship). Gracie worked at Walmart for several years before retiring and taking an unforgettable trip with Chester to the western United States. She loved her family and the many friends she had made over the years, staying in touch with them frequently.

Gracie is survived by her son, Clay (Andrea) Whitfield; daughter, Doris (Dwight) Quick; grandchildren, Anicia (Greg) Lester, Marcy (Lane) Wells, Candace (Jeff) Sanders, Carmen Whitfield, and Rex Whitfield; great-grandchildren, Cody Lester, Jonathan Lester, Carson Lester, Blake (Alexis) Wells, Austin Wells, Dalhia Quick-Wells, T.J. Wells, Darby Whitfield, and Evie Sanders; great-great-grandchild, Cashton Wells; sister-in-law, Helen Carson; nieces, Mary (Doug) Sells, Rita (Robert) Smith and Sandra (David) DeLeeuw; nephew, Mark (Lisa) Carson; and many cousins, neighbors, and close friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Josie E. Carson (Alf) Tipps and Mary Sue Carson (William Franklin) Bass; and brother, E.C. Carson.

Our thanks go out to Lincoln Medical Hospice for giving Gracie a better quality of life and being able to live out her life at home. She was very appreciative of her nurses, techs, social worker, and Dr. Jones.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lincoln Medical Home Health and Hospice, 2250 Thornton Taylor Parkway, Suite B, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or the Fayetteville Lincoln County Library, 306 Elk Avenue North, Fayetteville,TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Ms. Gracie Lee Carson Whitfield.

Love you grandma. I will always always regret not spending enough time with you as I should have. I will always look back at what wonderful examples my grandparents are. The strength..resilience… love, and compassion (sense of humor too) which they taught me, will always be with me. Today was difficult, but I’m trying to find solace in the fact that you are no longer in pain, and no longer suffering…. That you get to be with Papa again. I know how much you missed him. You are loved. You are missed. I know I’ll see you again. 💜
