Gordon Wayne Honey

It is with regret we announce the passing of Mr. Gordon Wayne Honey, age 86, of Fayetteville, TN. Wayne was born on July 8, 1933 in Fayetteville to the late Sam and Anna Ward Honey. He passed away on April 10, 2020 at St. Thomas West Hospital.

Mr. Honey was a man of faith and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved watching all sports, especially when his family was playing. Wayne was a true Tennessee, Big Orange Fan, including football and lady Vols basketball. He also was a Yankee baseball fan. Mr. Honey worked for Genesco and later retired from Malone and Hyde Distribution, where he was in sales. Life was never about Wayne, he was all about his family and their lives.

Mr. Honey loved his son, daughter, and grandchildren dearly. Survivors include his son, Rickey (Jo Ellen) Honey of Frankewing; daughter, Sherry (Mike) Horton of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Whitney Horton, Richard Honey, Robbie Honey, Susan Hamilton, and Stacy Rozell; great-grandchildren, Austin Honey, Kali Honey, Alyssa Posey, Caiden Honey, Lane Honey, Kylie Honey, Eli Hamilton, Ava Hamilton, Mae Hamilton, Tes Hamilton, Audrey Rozell, and Brady Rozell; sister, Mora Bradley of Elora, TN; and his Fayetteville Square Family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Honey was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Sharp Honey; brothers, Lewis Honey, Howard Honey, Joe Dean Honey, and Bob Honey; and sisters, Gladys Wallace, Hilda Young, and Frances Jones.

A private family service will be held for Mr. Honey with Bro. Randy Nichols of Maranatha Baptist Church officiating with burial in the Kelso Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public gathering at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lincoln County Tribute Chair, Cary B. Sullivan, P.O. Box 470 Fayetteville, TN 37334. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Gordon Wayne Honey.

Sherry and Rickey, our heart felt condolences go out to you and your families. When we think of your dad, we remember many things, but primarily what a sports fan he was.! He was, in particular, a support to me (Sam). He will be greatly missed.

Thank you He sure thought lot of both of you and still my favorite coach ever but more so a teacher that I always talk about to my kids and grandkids and always positive. I still to this day can see you in practice one day kick the ball up into top of gym and then we went from a bad practice to a good one Wish my knees had held up I could have took the journey thru 4 yrs with the group my class went thru
