Gordon Joel Marshall

Graveside funeral service for Mr. Gordon Joel Marshall, age 88 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Thursday at 10 AM at Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Anthony Crowell officiating. Mr. Marshall passed away Saturday evening at Lincoln Medical Center. Higgins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Lincoln County he was the son of the late Joel M. and Ollie Monks Marshall. Mr. Marshall was retired from Copperweld, was an Army veteran of WWII where he was a member of the 272nd Field Artillery Battalion and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife Anna McAlister Marshall of Fayetteville, daughter Karon Smith and husband Aubrey of Fayetteville, grandson Jason Smith and wife Erika of Arlington, TX, granddaughter Andrea Evans and husband Bradly of Fayetteville, great-granddaughter Addison Evans, sisters Edith Northcutt and Iris Davenport of Woodbury, TN, Corrine Crowell of Hazel Green, AL and brother Wilburn Marshall of Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by sister Ruth Rhoades and brothers William “Bill” Marshall and Loyd Marshall.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 at Higgins Funeral Home.

Karon, David & I were so sorry to learn of of your dad’s passing. Of all the time we have known you, we didn’t know that you were Gordon’s daughter. David’s dad, Buford, and your dad were first cousins. You probably knew that, and I’m sure Sherry did, but David didn’t realize it until now. You will be our thoughts and prayers as deal with your loss.
