Evelyn Gill

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Marie Sanders Gill, age 74, of Fayetteville, TN will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Graham and Doug Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 4pm until 7pm on Friday, January 20 at Higgins.

Evelyn was born on August 25, 1948, to the late John Albert Sanders and Lena Payne Sanders of Fayetteville. Mrs. Gill attended public schools in Belleville and Fayetteville. She was employed for years with the Lincoln County school system, and she also worked at M&H Star Market. In 1986 she became a full-time homemaker, where she became better known as Nana.

Nana was a loyal, selfless, hard-working lady. She had an incredibly inventive mind and could craft a solution for nearly any problem. She and her husband, Jimmy, carved a beautiful farm out of a rocky, overgrown property in Mimosa. Nana enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds, raising various farm animals, and cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and finding hidden treasures at her favorite junk/thrift stores. Most importantly, Nana had a tremendous love for her family, and she especially enjoyed attending school events and ballgames in support of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gill passed away January 15, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

Survivors include her children, Tim Gill and his wife Donna, and Sandy Gill Cunningham and her husband Doug, all of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Carrie Gill Bradford and husband Patrick of Fayetteville, Clint Gill and wife Nici of Dellrose, Maggie Cunningham of Fayetteville, and Mollie Cunningham of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Beau and Riley Jo Bradford, Callie and Kelsie Gill; brothers, Rex Sanders and wife Gail, and Jimmy Sanders and wife Cathy; and her dear friends, Connie Sisk and Celestia Wiseman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gill was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jimmy Lane Gill who passed away in 2018.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Fabulous Fifties Foundation, PO Box 934, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Travis Phelps, Lewis Steelman, B.J. Steelman, Randy McCool, Ricky Logan, and Jeff Sanders will serve as pallbearers.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Evelyn Marie Sanders Gill.

Tim, Sandy and family, I am so sorry to hear of your mom passing. Ms Evenly was a precious lady. I loved her and your dad so much. She had a heart and smile that touched all that knew her. She also made really good pecan pies that she would share with me each Sept. My prayers are with you and may God provide comfort and all your beautiful memories help heal your hearts.
