Ernie Roles

Our beloved husband, daddy, grandaddy, brother and friend gained his heavenly wings on December 15, 2023, at St. Thomas Midtown, in Nashville, TN, surrounded by his beloved family. Ernest Gordon Roles, known as Ernie, was born on February 14, 1957, in Washington DC, to the late Elwood “Boots” Roles and Sarah Ruth Crabtree Roles. Ernie loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When not spending time with family, Ernie could be found working diligently in the family business, Roles Electric and Plumbing, LLC, alongside his son. Mr. Roles was a member of the Maxwell Baptist Church.

Ernie married Brenda Williams Roles, on December 18, 1977. Additional survivors include his children, Michelle (John) Garrich, Raquel Knowles (Jackie) Robertson; Ernie (Stacy) Roles, II, and Jennie (Cam) Roles-Walter; grandchildren, Stephen (Anne-Kathryn) Baugh, Katlin (Rob) Lee, Robert (Sidney) Baugh, Anna Robertson, Tamia Robertson, Ernie (Lexie) Roles, III, Ethan Roles, Sydney Roles, Grayson Walter, and Tripper Walter; great-grandchildren, Weston Lee, Thomas Baugh, Graham Baugh, Camden Baugh, Samuel Baugh, and Landan Roberson; sister, Tammy (Curtis) Painter; brother-in-law, Tommy Wright; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Wright.

A funeral service will be held on his and Brenda’s 46th wedding anniversary, on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Roles Cemetery, with Military Honors. Visitation with the family will be from 4 PM until 8 PM on Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Junior’s House, 704 West Maple Street, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Ernie Roles.

Brenda & family – I have no words to express how broken hearted we are today. We value the time we spent with Ernie when we came to visit. He was so kind to us and always made us laugh. I loved how he was a “Roles” straight shooter. You never had to wonder what Ernie was thinking. We are proud to be part of the Roles family. Love to you all!!

Tammy, Brenda, everyone,

Gwen and I are so sad, and very sorry to hear of Ernie’s passing.
He was our friend for most of my life. He was my Babe Ruth Coach way back in the 70’s. I always liked him. As adults, he was always a good friend and supporter to me and Gwen.
We will not forget him.
You all are in our prayers and thoughts
Love to you all.

Brenda, Ernie Jr and family. I just spoke with Ernie Jr and found out about Mr. Roles passing. My sincerest condolences. I always enjoyed when Ernie called to rent equipment as we would end up talking about everything but equipment.
