CW3 Elmer John Theriault, Ret. US Army, age 89, of Toney, Alabama, passed away on September 11, 2025.
Born on April 20, 1936, in Lebanon, Maine, Elmer was one of thirteen children to the late Raymond Xavier Theriault, Sr. and Mollie Emma Hanson Theriault. After high school, he dedicated his life to serving our country in the US Army. Following his military retirement, he continued his service as a civilian at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, retiring for the second time in 1994.
Known affectionately as “Grandpa” or “Granny Pa” to his family, Elmer loved spending time with his grandchildren, often entertaining them with jokes and embellished stories. He will be remembered for his love of family and his playful spirit.
Elmer is survived by his children, Julianna (Kenny) Mills, Katheleen Theriault, Raymond Theriault, Jon-Ian Theriault, and Sherri (Eric) Theriault Moore grandchildren, Quintin Arnold, Brycetin Arnold, Whitney (Kevin) Hassler, Kenan Mills, Adam (Kelly) Clem, Samantha Clem, Hunter Huffman, Summer Huffman, Emma McMyler, Aiden Theriault, Rafferty Theriault, Erica Ormsby and Brandon Moore and seventeen great-grandchildren; his siblings, Betty Ann, Ruby, and Hib Theriault; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Scott Lemelin and nine siblings.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Reverend Father George Panthananickal will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
The family has entrusted Higgins Funeral Home with the arrangements.
