Funeral services for Edna Arline Barham Young, age 69 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Wednesday at 1 pm at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Will Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Old Orchard Cemetery. Mrs. Young passed away Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Care Center.
A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Avon Dyer and Martha Arline Barham. She was a 1962 graduate of Central High School, received her BS Degree from Memphis State in 1966 and her Masters Degree from MTSU. She retired in 1997 as Librarian of Lincoln County High School. After her retirement, Mrs. Young worked with an Educational Consultant Firm with the State of Tennessee for schools in Middle Tennessee.
Survivors include her husband Doug Young of Fayetteville, son Brandon Young and wife Jessica of Atlanta and a granddaughter Harper.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 11 am till time of service at 1pm at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Higgins Funeral Home is assisting the family of Edna Arline Barham Young.

I had the honor of teaching with Edna for fourteen years. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Her sense of style set her apart. I loved her humor. I will never forget an outing she and most of us in the English dept. took to Huntsville to watch the movie, STEEL MAGNOLIAS. We all laughed so much as we tried to decide which faculty members best fit each character. I will never forget Edna. My heart goes out to Brandon and Doug. Bobby and I will keep your family in our prayers.

I’m so sorry to hear this news; Edna was a special lady–entirely professional, gracious and caring. She was my role-model when I joined the EE program. My memories of her will continue to bless my life.

Edna was such an inspiration to all of those who worked with her. She was such an intelligent, hardworking, and creative person who never lost her sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her. My sympathy goes out to the family.

Doug and Brandon, The last time I visited with Edna, she told me about having to leave “post-it” notes everywhere because she couldn’t remember anything. I told her I did the same thing and we both laughed. She loved telling me about teaching me how to swim at Lee-Dell pool. She always thought of Donna and me as her little sisters. We loved her so much and she will be missed. She was an intelligent, classy, beautiful Southern lady.

Doug and Brandon, I can’t begin to tell you how much I thought of Edna. I taught with her for many years. She always had a kind word for everyone, was so funny and full of life and always looked like she just stepped off the front cover of a fashion magazine. I kidded her about that! I loved her! My heart goes out to you in her loss. She will always be remembered by those who knew her.

Kaye and I remember well seeing you in Fayetteville recently and your expressing that Edna was very Ill. We are sorry for your Loss.
Kaye and I remember her happy smile wherever she was and how she brighten a room.
Sue enjoyed her many years of professional association and personal friendship with Edna.

Mr. Young, Brandon, Jessica and Harper, my heart goes out to you all. I have always known that I had to share LeAnna with your wife and mom… she idolized her… when she was in school I heard, Mrs. Young this and Mrs. Young that or Brandon’s mom…after meeting her I can see why, a true Southern Lady she was and always wore a smile… I didn’t mind sharing LeAnna with her…. My daughter loved her so very much, she always will… she is who she is today partly because of two teachers in her life… Ms. Ellen in Highland Rim and Mrs. Young… they taught her the love of books she has, she is a very good librarian because of them, she loves her children just as Mrs. Young loved her as a student and later in life as a friend… Mrs. Edna Young will always have a special place in LeAnna’s heart that no one else can fill…she will be truly missed by you and your family but she will also be missed by my daughter, since her illness LeAnna has missed her chats with her, now she will be her guardian angel watching over her from Heaven as she teaches… she has and will never forget the love your wife and mom showed her… neither will I… My prayers will be with you through your difficult days ahead…

Doug & Brandon, I was saddened to hear about Edna. I have very fond memories of the years that we were neighbors. Most of them of course include Brandon and Joey. She was a devoted mother and wife. I’m so glad that she had the chance to be a grandmother, even though it was far too short. I’m sure she cherished those days as do you . Please continue to let that precious little granddaughter know what a wonderful southern lady she was. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. Library time at Trezevant was always better when you were there. Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time. Thank you for all you did for me and so many other “Bears”….we’ll miss you!!
