Dr. Charles Michael Farrar

Charles Michael “Mike” Farrar, DVM, age 74, passed away August 31, 2019 at his home in Fayetteville, TN. Mike was born June 22, 1945, the third son of William Parker “Dick” and Robbie Pool Farrar, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Jack Lynn Farrar.

Mike was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1974. Following graduation, he was employed by Tennessee Paving Company in Tullahoma, TN for one year. He was accepted into the School of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, where he received his degree in Veterinary Science in 1978.

In 1978 Dr. Farrar opened Farrar Animal Clinic, 2544 Huntsville Highway, Fayetteville. He enjoyed a comprehensive mixed animal practice until health issues relegated him to in-house, small animal care. “Dr. Mike” was an incredibly selfless and compassionate veterinarian who truly cared about animals and people, especially senior citizens and their pets. His quiet charm, humble manner and infectious smile will be missed by many.

Dr. Farrar is survived by two daughters, Kristie Leigh Farrar of Fayetteville, TN, and Carrie Denise Farrar of Binghamton, NY; brothers, James Richard “Dick” Farrar and wife Martha of Fayetteville, and Jeffrey Allen Farrar of Sacramento, CA; grandson, Dathan Michael Farrar of Fayetteville, and several nieces and nephews.

Additionally, the family would like to thank Brandy Syler for her unselfish seventeen years of faithful and dedicated service as receptionist, secretary, and bookkeeper for Farrar Animal Clinic.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Higgins Funeral Home. A private committal service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Fayetteville Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 37, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Dr. Charles Michael Farrar.

Dr. Mike was truly compassionate, humble, and selfless when it came to his career and his passion as a veterinarian. He was a great doctor for all of our fur babies and a wonderful customer for us too. He was so easy going and a wonderful person to work with on either side. We will all miss him in many ways. Our prayers to all of his family and friends at this time. He will truly be missed but always remembered.

When we moved here in 1980 Dr Mike taught me how to raise bottle calves. He told me not to buy from the stock yard but to find a dairy that would sell me their bull calves. Good advice. He said the secret was knowing the animals and lots of patience. He was a wonderful teacher. He doctored my dogs, cats, cows and horses for many years.
I will miss seeing him in WalMart on Sundays.

Wow what a HUGE loss. He has been my vet for 40 years and what a good man he was. The compassion he had for all animals and their owners will never be replaced. He was a ONE OF A KIND. I will forever be grateful for everything he has done for my family and our fur babies. He will missed greatly. We loved you!

My sincere condolences to the family of Mike. He was such a good vet. We never called him that he didn’t come to our rescue. Always had a smile on his face and friendly demeanor. Such an asset to Lincoln County. He surely will be missed.

A true lover of animals and there will never be another vet like him. He was always wearing a smile and knew just what to say when he knew there was no more hope for your fur babies. I’m sure as he crossed that rainbow bridge Saturday he stopped just long enough to be greeted by the many loved animals he’s taken care of over the years that loved him dearly…He will be missed…He was the best and he cared….

He will truly be missed. The only vet we ever used. He waited for my husband to get off work to put one our babies down. We have another one now and we will miss him and Brandy so much. Thanks for always taking care of our fur babies.

Dr Farrar was the only vet we ever used. After our first visit with him more than 20 years ago, there was never a need to go anywhere else. He took care of all our fur babies. From the horses to the puppies. He was always compassionate and caring and extremely patient with them. And of course, Brandy is always welcoming and ready do what where ever is necessary. Dr Farrar will truly be missed by us and our fur babies. Rest In Peace, Dr Farrar.

Dr Mike was such a great doc to my yellow lab named Snowman. My lab was a regular there cause of getting into so many fights. Dr Mike was always amazed at the bad shape Snowman was in, he kept him stitched up and loved working on him. He was such a great fellow. My prayers go out to the family at this time of sorrow

So shocked and saddened to learned of Dr. Mike’s passing. A sad day for Lincoln County as he was so kind and compassionate and as stated earlier, not greedy. I would drive from Lewisburg, after I moved, to see him. Prayers for healing to his family, friends and to Brandy. He will and already has left a void.
