Funeral service for Dot Walker Monks, age 91, of Fayetteville, TN, will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Johnson and Bro. Jeremy Hudgins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 2 PM until 4 PM Tuesday at Higgins.
Dorothy Walker Monks was born on February 21, 1931, in Lincoln Co., TN to the late John Thomas Walker and Jennie Fanning Walker. She was a devote Christian and faithful member of Kirkland Baptist Church. Mrs. Monks was a 1950 graduate of Fayetteville Central High School. Dot enjoyed watching professional and college games and loved listening to gospel music. She passed away on August 14, 2022, at NHC in Tullahoma, TN.
Survivors include her children, Vickie (Jake) Shaw of Hazel Green, AL, Dr. Dale (Terri) Monks of Clayton, NC, and Dr. David (Dr. Katie Jennings) Monks of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Jennie, Sarah (Adam), Jonathan (Ashlee), Francis, Maggie (Tim), Molly, Eli, and Lilly; great-grandsons, Walker, Henry, and Owen; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Monks; brother, Robert “Bob” Walker, and a sister, Selma Ruth Walker Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, or Kirkland Baptist Church, 655 Ardmore Highway, Taft, Tennessee 38488.

Mrs.Dot Monks (Miss Dot)) was a, wonderful person and a caring soul. The first time I met her, I felt like I had stepped back in time, and I had met a living, breathing Genuine Genteel Southern Lady.
I was friends with all her children, but Dale ( her youngest son) was my best friend. Miss Dot welcomed me into their home, and treated me like I was her son as well.
Although I didn’t grow as close to Miss Dot as I would have liked, I will always remember her warmth, hospitality, and Christian approach to life.

We couldn’t have had a better neighbor; she and Mama had lots of phone conversations! We feel like the Monks family and ours are close like a family. We will miss going to visit her; she always enjoyed my nieces and their families coming to visit her too. We are keeping the family in our thoughts and prayer.

I only meet Mrs Monks once but feel that I understand her caring nature, her sense of humor and her love of family and friends though my friendship with her sons.
She will be missed.

Mrs Vickie: I’m so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. I remember her shopping in the store @ Park City Bi-Rite back in the early 80’s when I worked there. What to say about a multigenerational friendship.I. remember seeing the pictures of uncle tom and aunt jennie and grandmother and papa on the porch together at church.I believe grandmother talked to her precious Jennie every day on the phone.Our parents played took together and laughed and laughed while we played cowboys and indians.I remember riding pal and playing with soso the cat and camping out It was a terrible shock about Dots passing but we know that she is with Jesus,Wilson,my daddy,their siblings,Aunt Francis,and all the others and we will see them again. Someday.What a reunion!You know when I think of childhood reunions I believe it was the most special day of the year for many attendees with overeating,playing ball, and fellowship.Our grandparents were the last to leave those hugh steps.I enjoyed a new dimension to our friendship when we would occasionally check up by phone. She. commented on how much she loved staying at home and I believe she shared this trait with Grandma Fanning.She was a very special lady who is missed.Please know that you are loved and prayed for
