Dorothy Nell Henderson Pettie

Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Nell Henderson Pettie, age 93 of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Stewart Cemetery, beside her devoted husband of 50 years, James Austin Pettie.

Mrs. Pettie was born on January 7, 1927 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Worthie and Annie Nell Koonce Henderson. Dorothy loved her church family and was a member of Liberty Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, sewing, studying her Bible, watching baseball, and attending Atlanta Braves ball games. Mrs. Pettie never met a stranger during her 38 years of owning and operating Pettie Grocery. There was mutual love and respect at Pettie Grocery between Mrs. Pettie and her customers. She retired in 2008 at the age of 81. Dorothy passed away on July 24, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Survivors include her children, Vickie (Tommy) Taylor, Sherri Hatley, Jimmy Pettie, and Gordon (Karen) Pettie all of Fayetteville; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and brothers, Lex and J.W. Henderson. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Pettie was preceded in death by her sons, James Bartlett Pettie, and Donny Pettie; daughter, Annelle Pettie Perry; grandsons, Joshua Austin Pettie, and Jeremy Lee Hatley; sisters, Lillie Mae Owens, Betty Henry and Maudie Jean Henderson; and brother, Charles Nelson Henderson.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Dorothy Nell Henderson Pettie.

In accordance with State of Tennessee Executive Order issued by Governor Bill Lee, social gatherings are limited to no more than 50 participants.
