Doris Stone

Doris Marie Stone was born to the late John Davis and Esther Eugene Bone on October 5, 1946, in Fayetteville, Tennessee. She confessed Christ at an early age, joining St. Paul A.M.E. Church as a child and remaining faithful until her death. On Tuesday evening, April 5, 2016, she answered the Lord’s call at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Ray Edward Stone, Sr. on July 16, 1966. This union was blessed with three children.

Doris worked at the Tennessee Department of Human Services for 30 years before retiring in 2002. She loved to travel and be with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory her very loving and devoted husband, Ray Stone, Sr., Fayetteville, TN; three children: Rita Smith (Larry) of Peachtree City, GA; Rhea Stone of Orlando, FL; and Ray Stone, Jr. of Athens, TN; four grandchildren: Jaylen Rhea Smith, William Elijah Smith, Ray E. Stone, III, and London Marie Stone; one sister: Bettie Hogue (Charles) of Warrensburg, MO; three brothers: John D. Bone, Jr. (Laura) of St. Louis, MO; Phillip Bone, Sr. (Carolyn) and Lawson M. Bone both of Fayetteville, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters Aline Peay and Delores Bone.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul AME Church with Dr. Reverend Charles Holsey officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 1 until 2 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church.

Higgins Funeral Home is assisting the family of Mrs. Doris Marie Stone.

Stone Family: I have no idea what you must be going through in losing what I think is the one of most important compasses in our lives. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your wife and mother. She was a tremendously sweet woman with a gentle spirit. I know she will be greatly missed.

Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to see Mrs. Doris several times and she was always kind in nature a joy to be around. My heart goes out to the family during this time. May god give you strength during these days. All of my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. Brings back a lot of memories of Brad and Ray playing together when we lived on 110. Mrs. Doris was such a sweet and classy lady. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
