Dennis Nelson Hazelbaker

A committal service for Dennis Nelson Hazelbaker, age 77, of Fayetteville, TN will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church cremation garden. Rev. Patrick Soule and Rev. Tommy Vann will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the committal service.

Dennis was born on October 21, 1943 in Dayton, OH to the late Ruth Hazelbaker and Jay Sherwood. He was raised in Otway, OH by his grandparents Elvin Collins and Ruth Koch Hazelbaker. After graduating from Northwest High School in McDermott, OH, Dennis joined the United State Air Force. His civilian carrier included several positions with companies in Ohio and Florida where he utilized his drafting skills, as an electric design engineer, and his love for inventing helpful gadgets. He loved to watch Jeopardy on television each night. After he was in Fayetteville, he spent his retirement years singing in the church choir, golfing with friends, delivering food for the Meals on Wheels program, and finally delivery prescriptions for Carter’s Drug Store. Dennis was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. After a short illness, Dennis passed away at home on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Suzanne Upham Hazelbaker; daughter, Laura (Terry) Monks; and his son, Benjamin Hazelbaker; grandson, Benjamin Jarrett Hazelbaker; brothers, Edward (Maureen) Younkin of Buckeye, AZ, Tim (Ann) Younkin of Morgan Hill, CA, and Brad (Karen) Sherwood of Martinsville, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cherished pups, Abbey and Roxy. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Irvine Francis.

Memorials may be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Music Fund, 200 Elk Avenue North, Fayetteville, Tennessee 37334.

Sorry to learn about Dennis. I sat next to him in choir at First UMC FAYETTEVILLE. We joked around each practice. Don W and I would him about his foot cast. He was a great person to put up with our kidding. Jim and Sara Lee. Trenton TN.
