Dean Sweeney Shelton

Funeral service for Mrs. Dean Sweeney Shelton, age 89, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Wood and Dr. Jon Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband, Cleveland Shelton, in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Shelton was born on August, 11, 1928 in Lincoln County, TN, to the late James Roy and Odelle Wolaver Sweeney. She worked as a bookkeeper for Builder’s Supply and later worked for Serbin Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church. She was an excellent seamstress, a great cook and gardener. She loved church and was a Sunday School teacher. Ms. Shelton passed away at her residence on March 20, 2018.

Survivors include her son, Danny (Kim) Shelton of Fayetteville,TN; daughter, Pam (Jimmy) Corder of Athens, AL; twin sister, Jeanne Mills of Fayetteville, TN; grandchildren, Will Noojin and Leah Noojin of Huntsville, AL; Jenny Shelton of Newport News, VA; and Megan Shelton of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Monks.

The family would like to thank her caregivers: Debbie, Dee, Alice, Nancy R., Nancy T., Kristin, Kristina, Brittany, Amy, Yolonda, and Linda.

Visitation with the family will be held at 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln Home Health and Hospice at 2250 Thornton Taylor Pkwy B, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or Fayetteville First Baptist Church at PO Box 623, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Pam, I am so very sorry to hear this. What a beautiful southern lady for sure. She was always so kind to me as I was growing up. Love and prayers.

What a lovely Christian lady and role model! When I was growing up, I wanted to be like Dean. I will always remember her fondly.
