David Oliver Barnes

Funeral service for Mr. David Oliver Barnes, age 83 of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 10 AM on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Gentry officiating. Burial will follow beside his wife Carolyn Harris Barnes in Wright’s Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 7:30 PM, Friday, February 19, 2021 at Higgins Funeral Home, with the Masonic Ceremony beginning at 7:30 PM.

David was born on February 26, 1937 in Lincoln County, TN to the late, Jack David and Katie Lou Gautney Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a truck driver and equipment operator. He served in the National Guard. David was a member of the Cyruston Church of Christ. He loved spending time with his family and working on the farm.

Survivors include his son, David Wayne Barnes and wife Sandy, daughter Cheryl Ann Barnes, son Benton Harris Barnes and wife Beth all of Fayetteville; grandchildren David L. Armstrong and wife Becky of Chattanooga, Kelly Bradford and husband Cole, Adrienne Cummins and husband Joe all of Fayetteville, Alicia Barley and husband Travis of Elora, Hannah Jacobs and fiance Justin Pack of Nashville, and Grace Barnes of Fayetteville; 10 great grandchildren; brother Eugene Barnes and sister Julia Kaye Hopper; special friend, Peggy Lewter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Barnes and a son-in-law, Eddie Hastings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Al Menah Shrine Temple, 1354 Brick Church Pike, Nashville, TN 37207.

I have known David most of my Life. H e was kind and gentle man who loved talking with everyone. He will be missed, God bless his Family at this time of loss and sorrow.
