Charles Henry Pyles

Funeral service for Mr. Charles Henry “Chuck” Pyles, age 95, of Fayetteville, TN, will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Park City Baptist Church, with Bro. Jason Caldwell and Bro. Don Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held at the church on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.

Chuck passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and deep love for his family. He was born on September 7, 1930, in Lawrence County, TN, to the late Lawrence Henry Pyles and Myrtle Hunter Pyles. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Chuck went on to build an exceptional career with the Department of Defense at Redstone Arsenal during its foundational years, excelling in the SDI strategic defense initiative program through sheer dedication, intellect, and work ethic.

A longtime and faithful member of Park City Baptist Church, Chuck had a profound servant’s heart. He served as a church deacon for over 20 years and actively poured into the children’s ministry until the age of 90. He loved keeping up with his church family, and his relatives deeply appreciated the overwhelming love, visits, support, and prayers provided by the congregation during his final years.

Above all else, Chuck was put on this earth to be the ultimate “Papa.” He treasured his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, creating a home with his late wife, Lila, that was built specifically as a gathering place for family—complete with a custom kitchen designed to cook feasts for everyone. Visiting Papa was widely considered better than a trip to Disney World. He was an active, meticulously organized man who enjoyed maintaining a pristine lawn (which he mowed himself until age 93), possessed at least two of every tool imaginable, and was always ready for a fun activity or a competitive game of Rook or golfing.

Survivors include his sons, Charles Richard (Pamela) Pyles and David Alan Pyles; grandchildren, Jacob (Phillippi) Pyles, Ethan Pyles, and Karly (Zach) Rayburn; great-granddaughter, Louise Phillippi and 1 on the way; sister, Mary Ray; and his cherished partner of 20 years, Carolyn Roach. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lila Pyles; daughter, Barbara Pyles; brother, Edward Pyles; and sister, Helen Davis.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, or Park City Baptist Church, 2809 Huntsville Hwy., Fayetteville, TN, 37334.
