Charles Frank Crawford

Funeral service for Mr. Charles Frank Crawford, Sr., age 85, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 3 PM on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Higgins Funeral home with Rev. Whitney Mitchell officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 1 PM until 3 PM on Saturday. Bob Gray, Buford Huskey, Gene Holt, and Mr. Crawford’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. He will be interred at Riverview Memorial Gardens.

He was the son of Judge Taylor and Lucy Morgan Crawford and was born October 6, 1932 in Smithland Tennessee. He graduated from Fayetteville Central High School in 1951. During his high school years, he was the Midstate Novice Bantamweight Golden Gloves Champion, played on the undefeated (during regular season) football team and was president of Central’s Future Farmers of America chapter. He received a degree in Agriculture from Tennessee Tech. The day after he graduated from Tennessee Tech he joined the United States Army. His time in service was spent in Massachusetts and Germany. After the conclusion of his military service, he came back home and began his teaching career at Flintville High School. It was at Flintville where he met and married the love of his life Patricia Holt. Frank was a fast operator. He courted and married her in less than three months. He moved from Flintville to Lynchburg (where he also coached football) and then moved to Huntland. He found a more profitable teaching job in civil service at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville where he taught electronics missile maintenance and repair to our troops and the troops of our allies. He retired after 27 years of service. He also managed Crawford Farms and Crawford Brother Farms for decades.

His family was very blessed by Frank’s many accomplishments. One of their favorites was when he coached his son Patrick’s baseball team. The first season they won no games. The final season they went undefeated in their regular season games.

He was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, his son Charles Frank Crawford, Jr. (Terri), daughter Luanne Kidd (David), son Patrick Crawford and six grandchildren Andrew Kidd (Kaitlyn) of Murfreesboro, Joseph Kidd of Atlanta, Taylor Kidd of Knoxville, Charles Frank Crawford, III, Holland Morgan Crawford, and Barclay Taylor Crawford. He is also survived by a brother Walter Crawford of Nashville, and preceded in death by his parents and an older brother Barclay Crawford of Burns, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church Building Fund at 200 Elk Ave N, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or ADM Frank B. Kelso II Scholarship Fund at 114 Brookemeade Circle, Fayetteville, TN 37334.
