Funeral service for Mrs. Carrie Taylor age 76 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St Paul AME Church. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Mrs. Taylor passed away Friday afternoon in St. Thomas Hospital.
Carrie Mae Taylor was born on February 29, 1936. After a long illness, she was called home on December 28, 2012 at St. Thomas Hospital; Nashville, TN with her family by her side. She was a life-long resident of Fayetteville Lincoln County and was educated in the county school system. She was born the sixth child of the late Claude and Laura Bell Gaunt Clanton. She was married to the late William Ray Taylor in 1951 and to this union a son, Anthony, was born.
Carrie Mae professed her love for Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of St. Paul AME Church.
Carrie Mae was employed for several years with Groce Provision Co. and later with Wal-Mart as a Department Manager until she was forced to retire to care from her husband.
Carrie Mae was proceeded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, Claude, Clarence, Howard, Melvin and Forrest, 2 sisters, Thelma and Helen Moorehead. She will forever be remembered by her devoted son, Anthony (Doris), treasured grandchildren, Christopher (Lori) Taylor, and Toni Taylor(Chauncey) Fitzgerald, beloved great-grandchildren, Alekzanndra, Chance and Shaleshea and great-great-grand-daughter, Shamiyah, caring brother-in-law, Billy (Linda) Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was affectionately called Mama Carrie by her grandkids and was deemed by them the best grandmother anyone could ask for. She never forgot a birthday and could be counted on to faithfully send a birthday card with a little piece of money in it. Carrie Mae loved to cook and was famous in the Taylor household for her boiled custard and white coconut cake. She was also an avid reader and drove her personal physician crazy with her medical acumen and knowledge of the latest medical techniques.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. till time of service at St. Paul AME Church.
Higgins Funeral Home is assisting the family of Mrs. Carrie Taylor.

So sorry to learn of your Mother’s passing. It is so hard to lose the one person that was always there for you. But please know you have been there for her also. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Taylor, I never met your mother, but through Toni I felt like I knew her. Toni’s comments and reinactments of her grandmother leaves me with the impression that she was a funny and very caring person. I know she will be missed by all of you! We offer our deepest sympathy.
