Carolyn Cunningham Slayton

Funeral service for Carolyn Cunningham Slayton, age 80, of the Hot Rock Community in Fayetteville, TN, will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce McVey officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4 PM until 7 PM on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Higgins Funeral Home.

Carolyn was born on July 6, 1942, in Lincoln County, TN to the late James Garrett and Gladys Armstrong Cunningham. Mrs. Slayton enjoyed sewing, canning, and watching her grandchildren play sports. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville, Lincoln County Peace Makers Club, and the FCE club of Hot Rock. Carolyn passed away on January 13, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Leo Slayton; daughter, Teresa (Dale) Gentry of Fayetteville; son, Ricky (Penny) Slayton of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brileigh Gentry (Josh) Barnes, Heath (Kim) Slayton, and Briona (Chris) Brewer; great-grandchildren, Ellasyn Slayton, Lynnix Slayton, Natalie Brewer, Ethan Brewer, and Andie Faith Barnes; brothers, Bill (Charlene) Cunningham, and Gary (Sherry) Cunningham; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Ryan Gentry; and siblings, Sandra Faye Cunningham, and Hollis Cunningham.

Mr. Leo, Ricky, Penny, Teresa, Dale and all the rest of the family we are so sorry to hear of Mrs. Carolyn’s passing. Our famines were neighbors for years seems like forever since Mama moved . We always thought the world of you all as I know the whole community did.
Mrs . Carolyn will be truly missed. May God comfort you and your families in the days to come and always. We are so sorry!

I’m so sorry to hear of Carolyn’s death. I don’t go out much anymore & just learned the bad news via Clayton’s Coonhunters post. She will certainly be missed in
the HOTROCK Community & around Lincoln county. She was a very active person & was dearly loved. You have my deepest sympathy. ❤️
