Bobby Wilson Groce, age 81, a lifetime resident of Fayetteville, passed away October 12, 2011 at Donelson Nursing Home following a extended illness. Born on December 15, 1929 to John W. and Ima Pamplin Groce. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joel Groce, sisters Elise Bartlett, Neal Vance and Janice Reed, and grandson Corey Groce. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Jane Noles Groce, daughter Marsha Groce of Nashville, sons Stephen W. Groce (Marsha) of Estill Springs, Christopher Groce (Lisa) of Knoxville. sisters Cindy Alder (Bobby) and Linda Ashby (Bob) both of Fayetteville. 5 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Following graduation from Central High School, Mr. Groce went to work in his family business, Groce Provision Co. Following his father’s death in 1958, he assumed leadership and grew his passion for business into multiple successful enterprises including Sugar Valley Meats, Lookout Mountain Packers and Groce Provision Co. A leader in the business community, Bobby was truly an example of honesty and integrity in his business and personal life. His contributions to Fayetteville and Lincoln County have served as an example to friends and family. His counsel will be missed.
A celebration of his life will be held by the family at The Washington Street Church of Christ on Saturday October 22. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. A brief memorial service conducted by Ann Hatcher will begin at 11 a.m. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts may be made to Washington Street Church of Christ or the charity of your choice.
