Robert McClain Wright passed away in Brentwood, Tennessee on June 10, 2019, after an extended illness. Robert was born on May 21, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky to parents Marion Alexander and Carrie Ozella (Evans) Wright. He was raised on a farm near Fayetteville, Tennessee and attended Boonshill High School. Upon graduating from high school in 1945, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country for almost two years as World War II was ending. After returning from military service and attending Tennessee Tech University, he graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education in 1954. Also a licensed attorney, Robert graduated from the Nashville School of Law in 1982 and proudly passed the state bar on his first attempt, all while working at his full-time job in sales. He enjoyed a successful career as a salesman of business forms, and he was most recently employed by Reynolds & Reynolds before retiring to Franklin, Tennessee in 1992. Robert raised his family first in Chattanooga and then in Nashville. Robert married Nancy Cunningham on March 21, 1953. Robert also was an active member of Crievewood United Methodist Church in Nashville.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, and their three children: Don Wright (Ellen) of Hoover, Alabama; Valerie Batchelor (Jack) of Memphis, Tennessee; and Sandy Davis (Jeff), of Cullowhee, North Carolina. Robert was a loving Granddaddy to eight grandchildren: David and Tyler Wright; Katie Beth, Anna Joy (Tamayo), and Lynae Batchelor; and Annelise, Connor and Tessa Davis. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville, TN at 1:00 p.m. on Thusrday, June 13, 2019. Visitation will be at Higgins Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., immediately preceding the funeral service. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at Boonshill Cemetery.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Wright when his youngest daughter, Sandy, married my brother in law, Jeff Davis. Mr . Wright’s friendly, kind way made it clear to me that he never met a stranger. He has left his family and friends a godly legacy. He will be missed by all who knew him well and remembered fondly by those of us who had the privilege to make his acquaintance over the years. May the Holy Spirit comfort all who loved him.
