Obituary

Martha Cowan Patrick, age 95 of Fayetteville, TN passed away in the home in which she was born after a short illness on May 12, 2008.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William Guy and Myra McGuire Cowan, and John Christopher Patrick, her husband, two sisters, Betsy Harwell, and Dolly Willis, and one brother William Guy Cowan, Jr.  She is survived by one son, John Christopher Patrick, Jr. (Rita) of Gainesville, FL and one daughter Martha Elizabeth Farrar, (Dick) of Fayetteville. She is also survived by grandchildren, James Richard Farrar, Jr (Phyllis) of Birmingham, AL and Sara Elizabeth Keeler (Harper) of Jackson, MS, John Carter Patrick (Carey) of Lake Butler, FL and Susan McGuire Patrick of Gainesville, FL. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Patrick attended Randolph-Macon College and the University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.  She was a charter member of the local chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution, served as a past president of the Junior Round Dozen Club of Fayetteville and later was a member of the Sr. Round Dozen Club.

A life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church USA of Fayetteville, she was instrumental in founding many church programs of service and also community programs.  In 2000 the Women of the Church honored her with a life-time membership in the Presbyterian Women?s organization.

Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday from 12-2PM.  Funeral services will be at 2PM at the church with interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery beside her late husband and her parents.  Pallbearers will be Tom Bagley, Don Holman, Gene Ham, Bob Young, Jim Harwell and Bill Thomas.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to the care givers for their compassionate care during her illness.  In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, c/o First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 472, Fayetteville, TN 37334
