Obituary

It is with regret that we announce the passing of Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Abbott Tucker, of Fayetteville, TN. Mabel was born on January 8, 1925 in Winchester, TN to the late Robert Lee and Lillian McNatt Abbott. She worked as a CRNA from 1949 until retirement in 1975 and served as President of the Tennessee Association of Nurse Anesthetist (TANA) from 1967-1969. Mrs. Tucker led a very fulfilling life, having worked on the campaign for Winfield Dunn’s run for Governor of Tennessee in 1970, helped in establishing the Lincoln County Genealogy Society where she published six volumes of the Lincoln County Tennessee Bible Records and four volumes of Middle Tennessee Family History, and becoming a licensed private pilot and a scuba diver in the 1950’s. Her love of creating oil paintings lead to her being a founding member of the Fayetteville Art League with whom she exhibited her art in the annual art show on the square as well as other art shows in Middle Tennessee. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the game of Bridge and hosting/attending many local Bridge parties in Fayetteville. She was ranked in the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) as a Life Master traveling to bridge tournaments from Huntsville, AL to Gatlinburg, TN yearly. After a life well lived, Mabel passed away peacefully on July 11, 2019 at Donalson Care Center surrounded by loving family.

Mabel is survived by her one daughter, Linda (Matt) Lucas of Fayetteville, TN; sons, David (Erin) Tucker of Lewisburg, TN and Bob (Kris) Tucker of Fayetteville, TN; and grandsons, Tucker and Alexander Lucas, Peyton and Carson Tucker, and Benton Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Walton Reed Tucker; one daughter, Dr. Ann Katherine Tucker; brother, Robert Lee Abbott, Jr.; and sister, Virginia Ruth Abbott Grimes.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Stewart Cemetery. Burial will be beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

“Mabel”, was and is, one of the top 5 humans that I ever had true admiration for. Her perspectives were always sincere and undiluted. I will remain privileged and blessed to have called her my friend/truthful comrade in life.

David and Bob, Your mother always talked of all the love and support you both gave her after the passing of her husband. I enjoyed the many years of playing with her at the bridge club. She was a truly gifted player and a wonderful lady to be around.
