Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Joseph Elroy Winsett, age 87, of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jeremy Hudgins and Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 68 officiating. The committal service will be at 2 PM on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Mansfield Baptist Church, 2465 Mansfield Road, Mansfield, TN 38236, with Bro. Virgil Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the Mansfield Cemetery with Military Honors.

Mr. Winsett was born on October 17, 1930 in Henry, TN, to the late Joseph Martin Alvis Winsett and Lillie Mae Lowe Winsett Dunlap. While attending UT Martin, Mr. Winsett married the late Christine Evans Winsett on December 17, 1954. He earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee and served in the US Marines. Joseph worked as the Agriculture Extension Leader with the University of Tennessee and was a 50 year member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 68, in Fayetteville. He was of the Baptist Faith and attended West End Baptist Church and Kirkland Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and on the building committee. Survivors include his son, Jerry Alvis (Kimberly) Winsett of Lafayette; daughter, Teresa Jo Winsett (Thomas) Kidd of Lafayette; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Moline, Amelia Bevill, Bethany Winsett, Bryanna Winsett, Joseph Winsett, Evan Kidd and Logan Kidd; great-grandchildren, Lawson Williamson, Neriah Williamson, Thomas Bevill, Brannon Winsett, Jojo Winsett and Kinsley Moline; sister, Ina Mae Knott; and special friend, Patricia “Pat” Long. In addition to his parents, Mr. Winsett was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Christine Evans Winsett.

Visitation with the family will be 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday, November 17, 2017 and Saturday from 9 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Higgins Funeral Home, 213 Market Street East, Fayetteville, TN 37334. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kirkland Baptist Church, 655 Ardmore Hwy, Taft, TN 38488. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Joseph Elroy Winsett.
