Obituary

Memorial service for Mr. Frederick D. Lowe, Jr., age 73, of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. David Miller and Bro. Robert Doud officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Lowe passed away on January 3, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital.

Mr. Lowe was born on July 27, 1944 in Norfolk, VA to the late Olga Pearl Wise Lowe and Frederick D. Lowe, Sr. His childhood was spent in many places, but his fondest memories were from Stumpy Point, NC at his Grandmother Bertie Wise’s home whom he considered the closest thing to an angel. Later, many happy years were spent in Miami, FL where he served in the United States Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. After twenty-five years, he also retired as a Lieutenant from the Metro-Dade Miami Fire Department. He was a member of the Fire Fighters Union, VFW, American Legion, and Crystal Ridge Community Church. Over forty years ago, he purchased his homestead in Lincoln County, TN while his children were young and later retired there. Crystal Ridge was his chosen home where he found a community of neighbors who became family.

Many people will remember him for his humor, love for his family, talent to do anything he set his mind to, and ability to overcome many medical adversities. He was full of stories including: being struck by lightning, wrestling an alligator, and having a fight with a grizzly bear. (Two of these are actually true; you decide which) He lived his life to the fullest and never let anything slow him down. He was stubborn, loved ice cream, and enjoyed a good “gotcha”.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dotty M. Lowe; daughter, Lisa (Jay) Witt of Fayetteville, TN; son, Frederick D. (Amy) Lowe, III of Mulberry, TN; grandchildren, Alyssia (Andy) Arnold, Donovan Levenhagen, Zander Witt, Maddie Witt, and Colson Witt all of Fayetteville, TN, Frederick D. Lowe, IV, and Stella Lowe both of Mulberry, TN; sisters, Nancy King and Donna (Jim) Earnest both of Hartselle, AL; sister-in-law, Nancy Lowe of Royal Palm Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Jimmy Little of Falkville, AL; half-brother, Kriss Gunderson of Battle Ground, WA; brother-in-laws, Robert (Debbie) Rainey of Dothan, AL and Terry (Olivia) Rainey of Huntsville, AL; sister-in-law, Sunny Clowdus of Birmingham, AL.; life-long friends and children’s godparents, Fred and Sandi Peters of Estill Springs, TN; many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his loving little dog, Sassy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Little; brother, Joe Lowe; and brother-in-law, Ervin King.

Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 1:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fayetteville Animal Shelter at PO Box 37, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Danny was a member of the old school of American Heroes: strong; brave; intelligent; fair; compassionate. My childhood memories of him, while visiting with my Aunt Sandra and Uncle Fred, were of a great man; and while it has been decades since I’ve seen him, I’m certain nothing changed. My deepest condolences to Dotty and the rest of his family on this day of great sorrow.

Dotty and family, Danny was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and friend, someone I will remember for the rest of my life, every teenage girl should meet an example like Danny of how a man should treat his bride, his children, his grandchildren, and others, I was once that teenager and have watched Danny continue his dedication and love for you and family, never wavering, a shining example for all. Praying for strength for you and family during these sad days. Love, Kitty
