Obituary

Graveside funeral services for Miss. Dorvalyn Jean, age 88, of Birmingham, Alabama, will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Miss. Jean was a native of Lincoln County, Tennessee and daughter of the late Dorval and Carline George Jean. She was a 1951 graduate of the University of Alabama, retired from the Department of Children Services, volunteered at the Birmingham Zoo and was a member of the Vestavia United Methodist Church. Miss. Jean loved acting with the Seasoned Performers, and has traveled most of the world.

Survivors include her brother-in-law Charles Gleghorn of Fayetteville; nephew Carl Gleghorn and his wife Becky; and niece Gay Gleghorn Dempsey and her husband Michael all of Petersburg; and great-nephews and great-nieces Carter Gleghorn, Taylor Gleghorn, Evan Gleghorn, Bailey Gleghorn, Conner Dempsey, Jordan Dempsey, and MaKena Dempsey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Joy Jean Gleghorn.

Visitation with the family will be 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Library Building Fund. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Ms. Dorvalyn Jean.

    From our time together in being co-workers , dear friends, I have known Dorvalyn (Dorvy)for over 40years. She was a talented thespian, supporter of the arts,world traveler(most continents) kind, thoughtful to our family and children and fun.
