Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Billy Ray Phillips, age 82, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. David Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Flintville Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born on July 24, 1935 in Madison County, AL to the late Henry Washington and Susie Elizabeth Whitworth Phillips. When he was around the age of 12, Mr. Phillips was introduced to Mr. Roy Warren by Bro. I.C. Pullias, and Mr. Phillips came to live with Mr. Roy and Mrs. Christine Warren in Fayetteville, TN. He worked for Mr. Roy at his service station and at the Warren Hotel until he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18, where he served for 4 years.

After his discharge from the Air Force, Mr. Phillips worked at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN and at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. Mr. Phillips returned to work for Mr. Roy at Roy Warren Buick Company as the Parts and Service Manager until 1983 when the business closed. He then returned to work at and retired from Redstone Arsenal in 1999.

Mr. Phillips was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, UT football, working on his land and in his garden, and spending time with his family. Mr. Phillips passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on May 10, 2018.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy Ivey Phillips; daughters, Tamberly (Laron) Pendergrass of Nashville, TN and Tracie (Mike) McEnery of Harvest, AL; step-granddaughters, Nancy, Molly and Emily McEnery; step-great-granddaughter, Naomi McEnery; brothers, Edward Phillips of Hazel Park, MI and Sherman Phillips of Madison County, AL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, James Henry, Alton, Clyde Junior, and Raymond Phillips and his sisters, Louise Smith, Maggie B. Hopkins, and Pauline Armour.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Billy Ray Phillips.

    Mrs. Phillips, I did not know about this until this morning. Sorry to have missed his funeral. My mother thought the world of Mr. Phillips and you. Jim and I know he is in Heaven seeking out those who have been waiting for him. Mama is one of those. He will be mowing the clouds.
