Higgins Funeral Home on board with MAD SAM

The suicide rate in Tennessee is 20% higher than the national average. And that is enough to get Higgins Funeral Home on board with MAD SAM to sponsor the 2nd Annual Suicide Awareness Walk on October 5th in Chester City Park.

As a funeral home, Higgins sees the after effects of suicide all too often. With 4 out of 5 suicide cases exhibiting clear warning signs beforehand, getting the community talking is a cause Higgins Funeral Home can stand behind.

  1. Thank you for this service of your blog. This is very interesting about how high the suicide rate is in Tennessee. I can understand the feeling of not wanting to live and seeing no point in existing any longer for I have felt the same way many times and cried and even spoken out loud to God and just asking “God why can’t you talk to me and tell me why you even allowed me to be born” but of course I know God cannot speak to me and there is no one to ask these questions to. The majority of people really don’t care if another person lives or dies…they just shed a few tears at a funeral and put on a good show and then toss them in the ground and say well, that’s done and go on about their own business of living their daily lives. The only thing that has ever stopped me from taking my own life is my own belief that God gave my parents the ability to make me and give me life and I have no right to take something he gave them and me. Thank you. I felt this need to air my feelings. I hope it doesn’t go public for someone will try to commit me to a mental hospital or something and I am not crazy. Lonely yes and in physical body pain all the time but not crazy. Again thank you Higgins family.

  2. Kathy,
Thank you so much for having the courage to reach out. We have a great organization that we would like for you to call. It is Contact Lifeline of the Highland Rim. They offer non-judgemental, professional, compassionate and confidential help to folks all over the Southern Middle Tennessee Area that are going through similar issues.
Their toll-free number is 1-800-454-8336. Please always feel free to reach out to us as well.
    Sincerely,
    Higgins Funeral Home

  3. Thank you Clay for your response. I did write down the phone number above you gave me. Your grandfather Mr. Phillip would be so proud that you are continuing in the family tradition of keeping the business running and also in Higgins’ attempts to reach out and help People in yet another way. Your Daddy and Mother should be very proud of you, as I am sure they are. All of your family has been dear to me my entire life. Your grandfather Phillip was a special man to me and always greeted me with a hug all my life. He used to laugh and say he got to introduce me to the world. He drove me home in an ambulance from the hospital when I was born which will be 61 years ago this Friday. I will never forget him or his kindness as well as the kindness of all your family during the loss of my own Mother and Daddy. You keep up the good work. (I know you will).
